Dirleton Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation Details

Following discussions at the DVA there is a proposal to setup a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organioation (SCIO) to allow the community to benefit from village premises and facilities.

At present the Dirleton Village Association (DVA) is a recognised Charity under the regulations of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

Following recent discussions with East Lothian Council around the derelict old village hall (which lies beside the Bowling Club house), the DVA needs to become a SCIO if it wishes to take over this building or buy any others.

The aims of the proposed SCIO are very similar to what the current DVA stands for: To act as a voice for the Community of Dirleton as defined by the village of Dirleton along with the settlements of Archerfield, Fenton Barns and Ferrygate, by collecting and representing views which have an impact on life in this community and to liaise with all public bodies on matters pertinent to residents in our community.

Papers are available below:

Dirleton SCIO Draft Constitution (29th May 2024)
This is the draft constitution for the SCIO that we are setting up to enable the village and surrounding community to both own property assets and to register an interest under the Community Right to Buy legislation.
As you will see the document is very prescriptive but I have highlighted in red the areas where the committee have agreed on key wording.
If you have any comments on the draft please e-mail the DVA by 1 June and we will get in touch to discuss.
This draft is submitted to both the Community Right to Buy team and the Charity Regulator (OSCR) for approval.

Once the SCIO is approved an EGM will be held where the DVA will be wound up and the funds transferred to this new entity.
