What's Happening ?
SP Energy Networks are undertaking work to upgrade our electricity infrastructure in the area and as part of that we are investing £0.5 million to install 2.7 kilometres of new low voltage (LV) cable throughout Dirleton to modernise the network and improve resilience.
We know the community has experienced a significant number of faults and upgrading the LV network in Dirleton will improve network resilience. This work will also facilitate further connection of low carbon technologies as we transition towards Net Zero.

Project Progress and Updates
- SPEN have started works at the village as of Monday 15th April and are on schedule. See photo below
- The team has also updated the phase plan to reflect council requests to avoid working on the main road at certain times. Updated on Website
- The team are due to come along to the Dirleton Village Association meeting at 7pm this Thursday and will talk through the project in person
Andrew and Chris attended the village meeting wanted to follow up with a couple of updates:
- Updated phase construction PDF attached
- PDF of slide presentation from the Dirleton village meeting
- The first leg of the works at the east of the village is complete and the site is now clear. There were some delays in clearance of barriers but that has been rectified and we thank the community for their patience.
- The second leg of the works has now started, covering a stretch of the main road to the west. Work on the main road will be halted during the summer as requested by the local council. We have also been made aware of some big events in the coming weeks in the village, so we are working on accommodating those events and adapting our timelines and where the work is taking place.
- We would like to thank the village again for their understanding while we are carrying out this work.
- The last week of June we have been busy excavating Castle mains and we expect cable in the ground here by the end of the week. To date, we have excavated and laid 860m of mains cable.
- At the start of July, we will resume Excavations in Ruthven and Gylers road now that school holidays are in effect. Immediately following this we will be excavating outside the village green, along manse road and the village green footpath.
- We would like to thank the Village committees for their cooperation and assistance in helping us work around both the open gardens festival and the Village fete. We hope that both these events went without issue.
